How to make Rice Krispie Treats from scratch but that aren't boring
If you know me, you know I almost always have Rice Krispies Treats in my apartment at school. Well, since I'm home for the summer, that isn't the case. I was at Aldi by myself and realized that the ingredients to make Rice Krispies probably cost about the same as a box at Walmart. I now have this funny idea in my head that I can actually make money selling these things, and maybe I will one day. Would you really blame me? I'm a broke college student home for the summer with no paying job (yet- manifest am I right?). I also don't have a lot of friends, which means my family is already sick of me making so many treats that go almost all uneaten.
Anyway, I'm here to tell you how I jazzed up some box of Rice Krispies cereal and marshmallows to make it magical!
- Brown your butter. This was truly a game-changer for the flavor. It doesn't take much effort either. All you have to do is, after you get your butter melted, keep it on that heat until it turns a light auburn color. To prevent it from burning, stir often. Once the bubbling dies down, it is ready. It should have some brown specks at the bottom, and that is okay. Immediately add the marshmallows to prevent burning.
- Toast your cereal. This took almost no time at all. I did this while the butter was melting, and it was perfect timing. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and let the cereal toast for 3-5 minutes on a baking sheet.
- Add vanilla. I swear I add vanilla to everything- maybe I'm obsessed, I don't know.
